EDB stops registration of Supersonic motorcycle

The Engineering Development Board, Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives has ordered Excise & Taxation Department of all the four provinces to stop registration of ‘Supersonic Motorcycle’ as its manufacturer was doing illegal assembling of the vehicle.

Abdur Razzaque, General Manager (Tariff), Engineering Development Board through his letter dated 6th March 2006 informed, “It has been brought to our notice that M/s. Supersonic Corporation, Karachi is assembling / manufacturing locally and selling Supersonic Brand Motorcycle.

Further, they have been able to get registered their motorcycle from Registration Authorities. It is clarified/ confirmed that Engineering Development Board has not approved the assembling/ manufacturing/ testing/ painting facilities of M/s. Supersonic Corporation, Karachi and the deletion programme for ‘Supersonic Motorcycle’. Hence, they are not entitled for registration of locally assembled ‘Supersonic Motorcycle’.”

The letter has been delivered to the Director General, Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority Karachi as well as the Secretaries, Excise & Taxation, Govt. of Sindh, Punjab, NWFP and Baluchistan.

The motorcycle industry sources while appreciating the measures taken by EDB authorities disclosed that the illegal manufacturer of Supersonic Motorcycle had not only assembled and sold, but also successfully got registered with the concerned department about three thousand such motorcycles during last one year.

Earlier, the same person was also involved in illegal manufacturing and sale of more than five thousand ‘Rocket NC-70’ brand Motorcycle, in the name of his firm M/s National Corporation having same address in Karachi, the sources informed.
