Chevrolet “JOY” launched by Nexus

Nexus Automotive launched its Pakistani progressively manufactured new Chevrolet “JOY” car on December 8, 2005 in Karachi. Designed by world-renowned Italian designer Georgetto Giugiaro and manufactured by General Motors Daewoo Auto Technology in Korea, the new Chevrolet JOY is a 1000cc delivering 63.2 Hp/5400 RPM coupled with torque of 88 N-M/4200 RPM with an advanced Multi-Port Injection engine for economical yet effortless and powerful performance.

Chairman and CEO of Nexus Automotive Pvt. Limited, M. A. Razaq addressing the launching ceremony said Nexus has been importing Chevrolet cars in Pakistan since 2004. It is truly a world car and is being sold in all European countries, Mexico in North America, Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific. It meets most stringent standards of European Union for safety, emissions and comfort. The company has had success with both the 800cc Chevrolet Exclusive hatchback and the 1600cc Chevrolet Optra Luxury Sedan.

The unveiling of the first locally assembled Chevrolet JOY 1000cc Car was also addressed by Wonkyung Suh, Director CKD Business Operation, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, while the other participants included Chaudhry Azad Hussain, Director Nexus Automotive, technical partners and friends from Korea, Donga Shin Director International Sales, GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (EU & AP), Salman Shoaib, Vice President Finance & CFO Vice President Operations, Asad Waseem, Vice President Sales, Marketing & After Sales, Amir Ahmed Sethi, and Suleman Jaffer Hatmi – Vice President Public Relations Nexus Automotive.

M. A. Razaq is the founder Chairman of this company. He started his operations in December 2004 with a planned capital of US$ 15 million, which is all foreign investment. A large business house, Omar A. Balubaid, in Saudi Arabia is his passive partner. After graduation from the UK, Razaq started his career with General Motors Corporation, USA, the world’s largest automobile manufacturer. He was retired in 1999 as officer and Corporate Vice President, a unique recognition to a Pakistani for his hard work and honesty.

This car has won many awards from prestigious car magazines in Europe & Asia for its outstanding styling, and innovative engineering to assure high quality, safety, fuel efficiency and comfort. Now it is being assembled in Pakistan.

Replying to a question Razaq disclosed that initially they have planned to manufacture about 3,500 vehicles in the assembly plant at Ghandhara Motors. However, within next five years this volume would reach from eight to nine thousand vehicles per annum, and they will establish their own plant in Karachi to expand the range of General Motor vehicles.

Millions of variants of the same Chevrolet car have been sold across the world and Nexus is confident that this car will be a success in Pakistan too. Over the last year and a half, the car has been thoroughly tested across Pakistan and completely customized for the Pakistani climate and road conditions. Built with high strength steel, the new JOY is already well reputed for its excellent safety features and the Pakistan assembled Chevrolet JOY will be no exception.

The Pakistan assembled Chevrolet JOY is having a host of unmatched standard features including Power steering, MP3/CD Player, Power Front Windows, Central Door Locking, Power Co-Driver Outside Rear View Mirror and Automatic Shut-Off Headlights. It is having a laminated windshield, side door impact beams, strengthened “A” pillar, crumple zones, collapsible steering column, seat belts for front & rear passengers and defogger in the windscreen.
